Description
A 2018 Recall of Pet food by the FDA was due to pentobarbital (Euthanasia solution). FDA considers this a contaminant that is not allowed in pet food. This poison gets into pet food when euthanized animals (usually livestock like horses whose bodies are disposed of at rendering plants) are rendered and used as the protein source in pet food. Horse meat can be detected by running a DNA species test, also available at PFSVL.
